Getting Started
What is FanCalm?

FanCalm is a minimal, high-quality fan noise app for iPhone and iPad. It plays realistic fan sounds — including box fan, tower fan, desk fan, and more — to help you fall asleep, stay focused, or block out distracting noise.

It's designed for people who prefer the natural, familiar sound of a fan over generic white noise or music.

Is FanCalm free?

Yes. FanCalm is free to download and use. Core fan sounds are available at no cost.

An optional FanCalm Premium subscription unlocks additional sounds, advanced features like custom blend mixing, extended sleep timers, and removes ads.

What iOS version do I need?

FanCalm requires iOS 15.0 or later. It is compatible with iPhone and iPad. For the best experience, we recommend running the latest version of iOS.

Does FanCalm work offline?

Yes. All fan sounds in FanCalm are stored locally on your device. You do not need an internet connection to use the App once it has been downloaded.

Sounds & Playback
Will FanCalm keep playing when my phone screen locks?

Yes. FanCalm uses iOS background audio so sound continues to play when the screen locks or when you switch to another app. You can control playback from the Lock Screen or Control Center.

What happens if I receive a phone call?

FanCalm automatically pauses when a call comes in. Premium users benefit from automatic resumption after the call ends — playback restarts where you left off without any action needed.

Free users can manually tap play to resume after a call.

How do I set a sleep timer?

Tap the timer icon in the main playback screen. You can set a duration from 15 minutes to 10 hours. The sound will gradually fade out when the timer ends so you're not jolted awake.

Can I play FanCalm alongside other audio apps?

FanCalm is designed as a standalone audio app and will by default interrupt other audio. If you want to mix FanCalm with other audio (for example, music from Spotify), use the volume mixer in your iOS Control Center to balance both sources.

What fan sounds are included?

FanCalm includes a curated set of high-quality, professionally recorded fan sounds:

  • Box Fan (classic, close, distant)
  • Tower Fan
  • Desk Fan
  • Industrial Fan
  • Oscillating Fan
  • Brown Noise blend
  • Focus Fan (tuned for ADHD concentration)

Additional sounds are available with Premium.

Subscriptions & Billing
How do I subscribe to FanCalm Premium?

Tap the Premium button anywhere in the App, or go to Settings → Upgrade to Premium. Select your preferred plan (Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime) and confirm with your Apple ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?

FanCalm subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple. To cancel:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone
  • Tap your name at the top → Subscriptions
  • Find FanCalm and tap Cancel Subscription

You will retain access to Premium features until the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Open FanCalm, go to Settings → Restore Purchases, and tap the button. Your purchases will be restored as long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID used to make the original purchase.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund:

  • Visit reportaproblem.apple.com
  • Sign in with your Apple ID
  • Find the FanCalm purchase and select "I'd like to request a refund"

Apple typically processes refund decisions within 48 hours.

I subscribed but premium features aren't unlocked. What do I do?

First, try restoring your purchases: go to Settings → Restore Purchases in the App. If that doesn't work:

  • Force-close the App and reopen it
  • Check that you are signed in to the correct Apple ID
  • Ensure you have a working internet connection when restoring

If the issue persists, contact us at chun.feng@yanxixuechi-energy.com with your Apple ID email and we'll resolve it promptly.

Troubleshooting
The sound stops playing after a few minutes. How do I fix this?

This is usually caused by iOS Low Power Mode or Background App Refresh being disabled. Try the following:

  • Go to Settings → Battery and turn off Low Power Mode
  • Go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh and enable it for FanCalm
  • Make sure your device is not in Do Not Disturb mode that silences audio

If the problem continues, contact us with your device model and iOS version.

The app crashes when I open it. What should I do?

Try these steps in order:

  • Force-close and reopen: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the App Switcher, swipe FanCalm away, then reopen it.
  • Restart your device: Hold the power button and slide to power off, then restart.
  • Update the App: Check the App Store for pending updates for FanCalm.
  • Reinstall: Delete the App and reinstall it from the App Store. Your subscription is linked to your Apple ID and will be restored.

No sound is playing. What's wrong?

Check the following:

  • Make sure your device is not on silent / mute (check the physical switch on the side of your iPhone)
  • Check that the volume is turned up in the App and on your device
  • Try unplugging and re-plugging your headphones if you are using wired audio
  • Check that Bluetooth is connected to the correct device if using wireless audio
  • Restart the App
How do I delete my data?

To delete all local data associated with FanCalm, simply delete the App from your device. This removes all locally stored settings and preferences.

To request deletion of any personal data we may hold (such as support emails), contact us at chun.feng@yanxixuechi-energy.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
